What are enzymes?
“Enzymes are biological catalyst (a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change.) made of protein and vitamins that break down complex food molecules to smaller molecules in order to utilize the energy extracted from food.”
In skincare, fruit enzymes are most commonly used as a safe and gentle form of exfoliation to effectively improve the appearance of the skin and help alleviate a variety of conditions.
Some of the more commonly used enzymes in skin care formulations include bromelain (pineapple extract), papain (papaya extract), ficin (fig extract), and actinidin (kiwi, pineapple, mango, banana and papaya extracts), & pumpkin extract.
